Simplified Cowboy Version

Acts 2

1 On the day of Pentecost, all the cowboys and others were together. 2 Suddenly a sound like a tornado tearin' through a hay pasture filled the whole house where they were staying. 3 Something like fire spread among them. 4 All of 'em were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages without any effort or knowledge from the cowboy talkin'.

5 People from all over the world were in Jerusalem and 6 when they heard the sound, they followed it to its source. When they arrived where the sound came from, they were astonished because every person heard the cowboys speaking in their native language.

7 The people were flabbergasted and wondered, "How is this possible? These cowboys are all from Galilee. 8 How can they speak our languages? 9 The people here are Parthians, Medes, Elamites, Mesopotamians, Judeans, Cappadocians, Pontus, and Asians. 10 There are also people from Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the country around Libya and Cyrene, folks from Rome 11 (both Jews and Jewish converts), Cretans, and Arabs. And all of these are hearing twelve cowboys speak in the people's native language about the great things God has done!" 12 They all stood listening with their jaws on the floor. Many wondered, "What can this mean?"

13 But some in the crowd didn't believe. They yelled, "These cowboys have just been on the whiskey, that's all."

Pete Talks to Everyone

14 Then Pete stood up and said, "Listen up, all of you! Don't doubt what's happening here. 15 These cowboys ain't drunk. Shoot, it's too early for that even for cowboys. 16 No, what you are seeing here today is what the great cowboy Joel had predicted when God said through him, 17 'Near the end, I will fill all kinds of folks with my Spirit. Sons and daughters will prophesy. Young men will have visions, and your old cowhands will dream dreams. 18 My hands, both cowboys and cowgirls, will be filled with my Power and they will also prophesy. 19 I will put on a show in the heavens and do mighty things on the earth below. There will be blood and fire and clouds of smoke. 20 The sun will shut off, and the moon will turn red when the Lord comes back. 21 But everyone who asks Jesus to save them will be saved.'

22 "My fellow Israelites, God himself acknowledged the truth of Jesus Christ with miracles, signs, and wonders like this world has never seen. 23 He knew y'all would hand his boy over to evil people and they would have Jesus killed. 24 But God brought him back from the dead, setting him free from the agony of the grave. Death could not hold the Top Hand. 25 David had even said, 'I always see the Lord in front of me as I ride. I will be unshakeable because he is at my right side. 26 Is it a wonder that my heart should be filled with such joy? Is there any doubt why my mouth shouts praises to Him? My body is at peace with the hope that is in Him. 27 He will never leave me alone and let me rot in a grave. Your Top Hand will not see maggots or worms. 28 You have shown me the trail and filled me with joy and happiness that can only come from you.'

29 "Listen up my countrymen! I can tell you our ancestor David is dead and buried. You can visit his grave, 30 but God had told him one of his descendants would sit on the throne. 31 David had seen a glimpse of the future and was talking about Jesus riding back from the grave after getting killed. He was saying God wouldn't allow the Top Hand to rot in the grave and be a snack for maggots.

32 "God has brought Jesus back to life, and we saw it all. 33 Now he sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. And God has given him the Holy Spirit, the Trail Guide, to give us this gift you have seen today. 34 Even David hadn't gone to heaven when he said, 'God said to my Boss, "Ride here to the right of me, in the place of honor for the Top Hand. 35 I will humble those who hate you, and you'll be able to use them as a footstool."'"

36 Pete continued, "So be sure, and tell everyone else too, that God has made Jesus, who was killed, our Lord and Savior!"

37 Pete's words cut to the quick, and they all asked, "How do we ride for Jesus?"

38 Pete replied, "All of you must stop ridin' in sin and start ridin' for God. Then you need to get baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sorry ways. Then God will give you the Trail Guide like he's given us. 39 This promise is for all of you and your children. It's for anyone who is called to ride for the Lord." 40 Then Pete started preachin' and teachin' for a long time. He told everyone, "Save yourselves from getting hung up in this crooked world we live in."

41 About three thousand people started ridin' for God that day and were baptized.

All the Believers Form a Crew

42 After this, all those who believed devoted themselves to the cowboy's teachings and to being neighborly. They shared grub (including the Boss's supper) and prayed with each other.

43 Crazy, wonderful things filled all their lives, and the cowboys did many miracles and wonders. 44 This new crew worked well together and took care of each other. 45 They sold what they didn't need and helped those who were in need. 46 They met every day to worship God. They ate together often, and their hearts were filled to overflowing. 47 The crew praised God, and God turned around and blessed their socks off. He brought them new cowboys every single day to add to the outfit of those who were being saved.
