Contextual Overview

4Now just because the believers were scattered didn't mean they weren't preaching wherever they went. 5Phil, one of the men who had been in charge of the food distribution, went into Samaria and told them about the Top Hand. 6When people saw what he could do and heard the words he said, they paid close attention. 7He cast out demons who shrieked at their defeat and many paralyzed people were healed. 8A time of great joy had come to that part of the country. 9Now there was a guy named Simon who had been practicing voodoo around there and had amazed many people with his feats. He never neglected to tell people how great he was. 10People of all walks of life agreed and said, "This man's name should be God's Great Power." 11They had great admiration for Simon because of his magic. 12But when Phil came to town, he told them the good news about God's outfit. People heard the message and were baptized. 13Even that voodoo priest, Simon, was baptized. Simon followed Phil around everywhere he went. He was amazed at what Phil could do.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

And the people with one accord,.... The inhabitants of the city of Samaria, as one man, came to hear the word:

and gave heed to those things which Philip spake; they listened to them, took notice of them, gave their ascent to them, believed and embraced them; being induced thereunto, not only upon the evidence by which these things came, but by reason of the miracles which he wrought, for the confirmation of them: for it follows,

hearing and seeing the miracles which he did; and which are particularly mentioned in the next verse.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

With one accord - Unitedly, or with one mined. Great multitudes of them did it.

Gave heed - Paid attention to; embraced.

Hearing - Hearing what he said.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse Acts 8:6. The people with one accord gave heed — He had fixed their attention, not only with the gravity and importance of the matter of his preaching, but also by the miracles which he did.
