Berkatalah Elia kepada raja: "Beginilah firman TUHAN: Oleh karena engkau telah mengirim utusan-utusan untuk meminta petunjuk kepada Baal-Zebub, allah di Ekron, seolah-olah tidak ada Allah di Israel untuk ditanyakan firman-Nya, maka sebab itu engkau tidak akan bangun lagi dari tempat tidur, di mana engkau berbaring, sebab engkau pasti akan mati."
Maka kata Elia kepada baginda: Bahwa demikian inilah firman Tuhan: Sebab engkau sudah menyuruhkan utusan pergi bertanyakan Baal-Zebub, dewa orang Ekeron itu (adakah ia itu sebab tiada Allah di antara orang Israel, yang dapat ditanyakan firman-Nya?), maka sebab itulah tiada engkau akan turun lagi dari pada peraduan yang telah kaunaiki itu, melainkan engkau akan mati kelak.

Baalzebub: Literally, "the lord of flies;" or, as the LXX render, בבכ לץובם טוןם, Baal the fly god. See note on Exodus 8:24.
on which thou art gone up: In the East there is usually at the end of each chamber a little gallery, raised three or four feet above the floor, with a balustrade in front, to which they go up by a few steps: here they place their beds; an allusion to which situation is involved in this declaration of Elijah's, and frequently referred to in the Sacred Scriptures.
