Among the Corethites, Meselemiahu, the sonne of Kore of the children of Asaph. ² And the sonnes of Meselemiahu were these: Zachariahu the eldest, Iedihel the second, Zebadiahu the third, and Iahniel the fourth, ³ Elam the fifth, Iehohanan the sixt, and Eiloenai the seuenth. ⁴ The sonnes of Obed Edom, Semeia the eldest, Iehosabad the second, Ioah the third, Sacar the fourth, and Nathanael the fifth, ⁵ Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seuenth, Peulthai the eyght, for God blessed him. ⁶ And vnto Semeia, his sonne, were sonnes borne, that ruled in the house of their father: for they were men of might. ⁷ The sonnes of Semeia, Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, and his brethren were strong men, Elihu and Samachiahu. ⁸ All these were of the children of Obed Edom: they and their children, and their brethren, actiue men and of strength to do seruice, euen threescore and two of Obed Edom. ⁹ And Meselemiahu had sonnes and brethren, actiue men, eyghteene. ¹⁰ The sonnes of Hosa of the children of Merari, Simri the chiefe, & though he was not the eldest, yet his father set him in the chiefest place:

These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari. For among those Levites which descended from Kore, a grandson of Kohath, and which sprung from Merar, a brother of Kohath, the porters only wore; see 1 Chronicles 26:1.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

The divisions of the porters - The account of the porters here given makes them only twenty-four in number at any one time; 1 Chronicles 23:5 states that the duty was discharged by 4,000 persons. Perhaps of the 93 chief porters here spoken of 1 Chronicles 26:8-9, 1 Chronicles 26:11, 1 Chronicles 26:24 were always on guard as officers, while of the remaining 3,907, a certain proportion were each day on duty as their subordinates.
