Tetapi orang itu berkata kepada Yoab: "Sekalipun aku mendapat seribu syikal perak di telapak tanganku, takkan aku menjamah anak raja itu, sebab di depan telinga kamilah raja memberi perintah kepadamu dan kepada Abisai dan kepada Itai, katanya: Lindungilah Absalom orang muda itu, karena aku.
Tetapi kata orang itu kepada Yoab: Jikalau kiranya hamba dapat menimbang seribu keping perak di atas tapak tangan hamba sekalipun, niscaya tiada hamba mendatangkan tangan hamba kepada putera baginda, karena telah kedengaranlah kepada hamba sekalian, bahwa baginda sudah berpesan kepada tuan dan kepada Abisai dan Itai, titahnya: Hendaklah kamu sayang akan orang muda si Absalom itu.

And Abraham runnyng vnto his beastes, fet a calfe tender and good, and gaue it vnto a young man, and he hasted to make it redy at once.
Abraham and Sara were both olde, and well stryken in age: and it ceassed to be with Sara after the maner as it is with women.
Therefore Sara laughed within her selfe, saying: Nowe I am waxed olde shal I geue my selfe to lust, and my Lorde olde also?
And God said vnto Abraham: wherfore dyd Sara laugh, saying, shall I of a suertie beare a chylde, which am olde?
Seyng that Abraham shall surely be a great and a myghtie nation, and all the nations of the earth shalbe blessed in hym?
And the lorde saide: because the crye of Sodome and Gomorrhe is great, and because their sinne is exceding greeuous:
Then shall our mouth be filled with a laughter: and our tongue with a ioyfull noyse. Then shall suche as be amongst the Heathen say: God hath brought great thinges to passe, that he myght do for them.
Therfore euery one of you [do ye so] Let euery one of you loue his wyfe euen as hym selfe, and [let] the wyfe reuerence her husbande.

And the man said unto Joab,.... Disdaining his proposal:
though I should receive a thousand [shekels] of silver in mine hand; or such a sum should be offered to me; the Arabic version is a million;
[yet] would I not put forth my hand against the king's son; to smite him, and slay him:
for in our hearing the king charged thee, and Abishai, and Ittai; his three generals:
saying, beware that none [touch] the young man Absalom; so as to slay him; they were charged to abstain from it themselves, and to watch and observe others, and keep them from doing it.
