Mendengar itu Yesus berkata kepadanya: "Masih tinggal satu hal lagi yang harus kaulakukan: juallah segala yang kaumiliki dan bagi-bagikanlah itu kepada orang-orang miskin, maka engkau akan beroleh harta di sorga, kemudian datanglah ke mari dan ikutlah Aku."
Setelah didengar oleh Yesus, berkatalah Ia kepadanya, "Hanya satu perkara lagi engkau kekurangan: Jualkan barang apa yang ada padamu, dan sedekahkanlah kepada orang miskin, maka engkau akan beroleh harta di surga; dan marilah mengikut Aku."

And I sought among them for a man that woulde make vp the hedge, and set hym selfe in the gap before me in the landes behalfe, that I shoulde not destroy it: but I coulde fynde none.
But he being full of the holy ghost, loked vp stedfastly into heauen, and sawe the glory of God, and Iesus standyng on the ryght hande of God,
I exhort therefore, that firste of all, prayers, supplications, intercessios and geuynge of thankes be made for all men:

Now when Jesus heard these things,.... That he had kept all these commandments, and that ever since he was a child, and to that very time:
he said unto him, yet lackest thou one thing; not but that he lacked many other things, and even every thing: for he had performed no one thing as it should be: but Christ said, partly in answer to his pert question, "what lack I yet?" and partly by an ironical concession, granting he had kept them all, as he had said, yet one thing was wanting; and chiefly with a view to mortify his pride and vanity:
sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come and follow me;
