41 And when he was come neare, he behelde the citie, and wept on it. 42 Saying: If thou haddest knowen those thynges whiche belong vnto thy peace, euen in this thy day: But nowe are they hyd from thyne eyes. 43 For the dayes shall come vpon thee, that thyne enemies also shall caste a banke about thee, and compasse thee rounde, and kepe thee in on euery syde: 44 And make thee euen with ye grounde, and thy chyldren which are in thee: and they shall not leaue in thee one stone vpo another, because thou knowest not the tyme of thy visitation. 45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that solde therin, & them that bought, 46 Saying vnto them, it is written: My house is the house of prayer, but ye haue made it a denne of thieues. 47 And he taught dayly in the temple. But the hye priestes and the scribes, & the chiefe of the people, went about to destroy hym, 48 And coulde not fynde what to do: For all the people stacke by hym, when they hearde hym.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

And he went into the temple,.... Being come into the city, he alighted from the colt he rode on, and having committed it to the care of a proper person to return it to the owner, he went up directly to the temple, of which he was the Lord and proprietor, and where he had some work to do the few days he had to live.

And began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; that traded in sheep, and oxen, and doves; see John 2:15. The Ethiopic version adds here, as there, "and overthrew, the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves".
