Maka bertanyakanlah juga zaman-zaman dahulukala, yang dahulu dari pada kamu, yaitu dari pada hari tatkala dijadikan Allah akan manusia di atas bumi, dan dari pada ujung langit kepada ujung langit yang lain, jikalau pernah jadi sesuatu perkara yang seperti perkara besar ini, atau jikalau kedengaran barang sesuatu yang sebagainya;

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee,.... Inquire into and consult the annals of former times, of ages past:

since the day that God created man upon the earth; trace them quite up to the creation of the world, and men in it:

and [ask] from the one side of heaven to the other; traverse the whole globe, and examine the records of every nation in it in both hemispheres:

Deuteronomy 4:37

He chose their seed after them - literally, “his seed after him.” Speaking of the love of God to their fathers in general, Moses has more especially in mind that one of them who was called “the Friend of God” James 2:23.

Brought thee out in his sight - literally, “by His face:” “i. e.” by the might of His personal presence. Compare Exodus 33:14; where God promises “My presence (literally ‘My face’) shall go with thee.”
