Perciocchè, domanda pure ora dei tempi antichi, che sono stati avanti che tu fossi, dal dì che Iddio creò l’uomo in su la terra, se mai da uno estremo del cielo, infino all’altro, è stato fatto, o si è udito nulla di simile a questa gran cosa;
Interroga pure i tempi antichi, che furono prima di te, dal giorno in cui DIO cre luomo sulla terra, e chiedi da unestremit dei cieli allaltra se vi fu mai una cosa grande come questa o si mai udita una cosa simile a questa.

Gill's Notes on the Bible
For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee,.... Inquire into and consult the annals of former times, of ages past:
since the day that God created man upon the earth; trace them quite up to the creation of the world, and men in it:
and [ask] from the one side of heaven to the other; traverse the whole globe, and examine the records of every nation in it in both hemispheres:
whether there hath been any such [thing] as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? whether they can give any account of anything seen, heard, or done like what follows; suggesting that they cannot furnish out an instance to be mentioned with it.
Barnes' Notes on the Bible
Unwilling, as it might seem, to close his discourse with words of terror, Moses makes a last appeal to them in these verses in a different strain.
Deuteronomy 4:34
Temptations - Compare Deuteronomy 7:18-19; Deuteronomy 29:2-3; not, “i. e.” the tribulations and persecutions undergone by the Israelites, out the plagues miraculously inflicted on the Egyptians.
Deuteronomy 4:37
He chose their seed after them - literally, “his seed after him.” Speaking of the love of God to their fathers in general, Moses has more especially in mind that one of them who was called “the Friend of God” James 2:23.
Brought thee out in his sight - literally, “by His face:” “i. e.” by the might of His personal presence. Compare Exodus 33:14; where God promises “My presence (literally ‘My face’) shall go with thee.”
