Jeśli zapewne w tej ziemi mieszkać będziecie, pobuduję was, a nie zepsuję; wszczepię was, a nigdy nie wykorzenię, bo mi iście żal nieszczęścia, którem dopuścił na was.
Jeśli osiądziecie na stałe w tej ziemi, odbuduję was, a nie zburzę, zasadzę was, a nie wyrwę, bo smuci Mnie to nieszczęście, które musiałem wam zesłać.
Jeśli się nawrócicie i zamieszkacie na tej ziemi – wtedy was odbuduję i nie zburzę; zasadzę was i więcej nie wyplenię, bo żal Mi odnośnie tego nieprzyjemnego, które wam wyrządziłem.
Jeźli się nawrócicie, i zostaniecie w tej ziemi, zaiste pobuduję was, a nie zepsuję, i wszczepię was, a nie wykorzenię; bo mi żal tego złego, którem wam uczynił. Nie bójcież się oblicza króla Babilońskiego, którego się wy boicie;

Gill's Notes on the Bible
If ye will still abide in this land,.... In the land of Judea, their native country, where they had always lived, and where they continued when their brethren were carried captive; and yet they thought of going out of it, which the Lord knew; and therefore to encourage them to abide in it, and not think of departing into Egypt; that if they would take up their residence in it, and determine to continue there, he thus promises them:
then will I build you, and not pull [you] down: and I will plant you,
and not pluck [you] up; that is, they should be firm and stable, happy and prosperous; and abound with all kind of blessings, and increase in numbers, wealth, and riches. The metaphors are taken from building houses, and planting fields and vineyards:
for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you; not that he had done any unjust thing to them; or that he changed his mind concerning them; but that he had compassion on them, and would change his way and course of providence towards them, according to his unchangeable will.
Barnes' Notes on the Bible
I repent me - As punishment had been inflicted, the divine justice was satisfied.
Clarke's Notes on the Bible
Verse Jeremiah 42:10. For I repent me of the evil — The meaning is, As I have punished you only because you continued to be rebellious, I will arrest this punishment as soon as you become obedient to my word. You need not fear the king of Babylon if you have me for your helper; and I will so show mercy to you that he shall see it, and cease from afflicting you, as he shall see that I am on your side.
