Pequeño soy, y despreciado, mas no me olvido de tus preceptos.

Bienaventurados los que guardan sus testimonios, Y con todo el corazn le buscan: Pues no hacen iniquidad Los que andan en sus caminos. T encargaste Que sean muy guardados tus mandamientos. Ojal fuesen ordenados mis caminos A observar tus estatutos! Entonces no sera yo avergonzado, Cuando atendiese todos tus mandamientos. Te alabar con rectitud de corazn, Cuando aprendiere los juicios de tu justicia. Tus estatutos guardar: No me dejes enteramente. BETH. Con qu limpiar el joven su camino? Con guardar tu palabra. Con todo mi corazn te he buscado: No me dejes divagar de tus mandamientos. En mi corazn he guardado tus dichos, Para no pecar contra ti. Bendito t, oh Jehov: Ensame tus estatutos. Con mis labios he contado Todos los juicios de tu boca. Heme gozado en el camino de tus testimonios, Como sobre toda riqueza. En tus mandamientos meditar, Considerar tus caminos. Recrearme en tus estatutos: No me olvidar de tus palabras. GIMEL. Haz bien tu siervo; que viva Y guarde tu palabra. Abre mis ojos, y mirar Las maravillas de tu ley. Advenedizo soy yo en la tierra: No encubras de m tus mandamientos. Quebrantada est mi alma de desear Tus juicios en todo tiempo. Destruiste los soberbios malditos, Que se desvan de tus mandamientos. Aparta de m oprobio y menosprecio; Porque tus testimonios he guardado. Prncipes tambin se sentaron y hablaron contra m: Mas tu siervo meditaba en tus estatutos. Pues tus testimonios son mis deleites, Y mis consejeros. DALETH. Pegse al polvo mi alma: Vivifcame segn tu palabra. Mis caminos te cont, y me has respondido: Ensame tus estatutos. Hazme entender el camino de tus mandamientos, Y hablar de tus maravillas. Deshcese mi alma de ansiedad: Corrobrame segn tu palabra. Aparta de m camino de mentira; Y hazme la gracia de tu ley. Escog el camino de la verdad; He puesto tus juicios delante de m. Allegdome he tus testimonios; Oh Jehov, no me avergences. Por el camino de tus mandamientos correr, Cuando ensanchares mi corazn. HE. Ensame, oh Jehov, el camino de tus estatutos, Y guardarlo hasta el fin. Dame entendimiento, y guardar tu ley; Y la observar de todo corazn. Guame por la senda de tus mandamientos; Porque en ella tengo mi voluntad. Inclina mi corazn tus testimonios, Y no la avaricia. Aparta mis ojos, que no vean la vanidad; Avvame en tu camino. Confirma tu palabra tu siervo, Que te teme. Quita de m el oprobio que he temido: Porque buenos son tus juicios. He aqu yo he codiciado tus mandamientos: Vivifcame en tu justicia. VAV. Y venga m tu misericordia, oh Jehov; Tu salud, conforme tu dicho. Y dar por respuesta mi avergonzador, Que en tu palabra he confiado. Y no quites de mi boca en nign tiempo la palabra de verdad; Porque tu juicio espero. Y guardar tu ley siempre, Por siglo de siglo. Y andar en anchura, Porque busqu tus mandamientos. Y hablar de tus testimonios delante de los reyes, Y no me avergonzar. Y deleitarme en tus mandamientos, Que he amado. Alzar asimismo mis manos tus mandamientos que am; Y meditar en tus estatutos. ZAYIN. Acurdate de la palabra dada tu siervo, En la cual me has hecho esperar. Esta es mi consuelo en mi afliccin: Porque tu dicho me ha vivificado. Los soberbios se burlaron mucho de m: Mas no me he apartado de tu ley. Acordme, oh Jehov, de tus juicios antiguos, Y consolme. Horror se apoder de m, causa De los impos que dejan tu ley. Cnticos me fueron tus estatutos En la mansin de mis peregrinaciones. Acordme en la noche de tu nombre, oh Jehov, Y guard tu ley. Esto tuve, Porque guardaba tus mandamientos. JET. Mi porcin, oh Jehov, Dije, ser guardar tus palabras. Tu presencia supliqu de todo corazn: Ten misericordia de m segn tu palabra. Consider mis caminos, Y torn mis pies tus testimonios. Apresurme, y no me retard En guardar tus mandamientos. Compaa de impos me han robado: Mas no me he olvidado de tu ley. A media noche me levantaba alabarte Sobre los juicios de tu justicia. Compaero soy yo de todos los que te temieren Y guardaren tus mandamientos. De tu misericordia, oh Jehov, est llena la tierra: Ensame tus estatutos. TETH. Bien has hecho con tu siervo, Oh Jehov, conforme tu palabra. Ensame bondad de sentido y sabidura; Porque tus mandamientos he credo. Antes que fuera yo humillado, descarriado andaba; Mas ahora guardo tu palabra. Bueno eres t, y bienhechor: Ensame tus estatutos. Contra m forjaron mentira los soberbios: Mas yo guardar de todo corazn tus mandamientos. Engrasse el corazn de ellos como sebo; Mas yo en tu ley me he deleitado. Bueno me es haber sido humillado, Para que aprenda tus estatutos. Mejor me es la ley de tu boca, Que millares de oro y plata. YOD. Tus manos me hicieron y me formaron: Hazme entender, y aprender tus mandamientos. Los que te temen, me vern, y se alegrarn; Porque en tu palabra he esperado. Conozco, oh Jehov, que tus juicios son justicia, Y que conforme tu fidelidad me afligiste. Sea ahora tu misericordia para consolarme, Conforme lo que has dicho tu siervo. Vengan m tus misericordias, y viva; Porque tu ley es mi deleite. Sean avergonzados los soberbios, porque sin causa me han calumniado: Yo empero, meditar en tus mandamientos. Trnense m los que te temen Y conocen tus testimonios. Sea mi corazn ntegro en tus estatutos; Porque no sea yo avergonzado. KAF. Desfallece mi alma por tu salud, Esperando en tu palabra. Desfallecieron mis ojos por tu palabra, Diciendo: Cundo me consolars? Porque estoy como el odre al humo; Mas no he olvidado tus estatutos. Cuntos son los das de tu siervo? Cundo hars juicio contra los que me persiguen? Los soberbios me han cavado hoyos; Mas no obran segn tu ley. Todos tus mandamientos son verdad: Sin causa me persiguen; aydame. Casi me han echado por tierra: Mas yo no he dejado tus mandamientos. Vivifcame conforme tu misericordia; Y guardar los testimonios de tu boca. LAMED. Para siempre, oh Jehov, Permenece tu palabra en los cielos. Por generacin y generacin es tu verdad: T afirmaste la tierra, y persevera. Por tu ordenacin perseveran hasta hoy las cosas criadas; Porque todas ellas te sirven. Si tu ley no hubiese sido mis delicias, Ya en mi afliccin hubiera perecido. Nunca jams me olvidar de tus mandamientos; Porque con ellos me has vivificado. Tuyo soy yo, gurdame; Porque he buscado tus mandamientos. Los impos me han aguardado para destruirme: Mas yo entender en tus testimonios. A toda perfeccin he visto fin: Ancho sobremanera es tu mandamiento. MEM. Cunto amo yo tu ley! Todo el da es ella mi meditacin. Me has hecho ms sabio que mis enemigos con tus mandamientos; Porque me son eternos. Ms que todos mis enseadores he entendido: Porque tus testimonios son mi meditacin. Ms que los viejos he entendido, Porque he guardado tus mandamientos. De todo mal camino contuve mis pies, Para guardar tu palabra. No me apart de tus juicios; Porque t me enseaste. Cun dulces son mi paladar tus palabras! Ms que la miel mi boca. De tus mandamientos he adquirido inteligencia: Por tanto he aborrecido todo camino de mentira. NUN. Lmpara es mis pies tu palabra, Y lumbrera mi camino. Jur y ratifiqu El guardar los juicios de tu justicia. Afligido estoy en gran manera: oh Jehov, Vivifcame conforme tu palabra. Rugote, oh Jehov, te sean agradables los sacrificios voluntarios de mi boca; Y ensame tus juicios. De continuo est mi alma en mi mano: Mas no me he olvidado de tu ley. Pusironme lazo los impos: Empero yo no me desvi de tus mandamientos. Por heredad he tomado tus testimonios para siempre; Porque son el gozo de mi corazn. Mi corazn inclin poner por obra tus estatutos De continuo, hasta el fin. SAMECH. Los pensamientos vanos aborrezco; Mas amo tu ley. Mi escondedero y mi escudo eres t: En tu palabra he esperado. Apartaos de m, malignos; Pues yo guardar los mandamientos de mi Dios. Sustntame conforme tu palabra, y vivir: Y no me avergences de mi esperanza. Sostnme, y ser salvo; Y deleitarme siempre en tus estatutos. Hollaste todos los que se desvan de tus estatutos: Porque mentira es su engao. Como escorias hiciste consumir todos los impos de la tierra: Por tanto yo he amado tus testimonios. Mi carne se ha extremecido por temor de ti; Y de tus juicios tengo miedo. AIN. Juicio y justicia he hecho; No me dejes mis opresores. Responde por tu siervo para bien: No me hagan violencia los soberbios. Mis ojos desfallecieron por tu salud, Y por el dicho de tu justicia. Haz con tu siervo segn tu misericordia, Y ensame tus estatutos. Tu siervo soy yo, dame entendimiento; Para que sepa tus testimonios. Tiempo es de hacer, oh Jehov; Disipado han tu ley. Por eso he amado tus mandamientos Ms que el oro, y ms que oro muy puro.
Pequeo soy yo y desechado; mas no me he olvidado de tus mandamientos.

I [am] small and despised,.... Or, "I have been" x. Some versions render it "young" y; as if it had respect to the time of his anointing by Samuel, when he was overlooked and despised in his father's family, 1 Samuel 16:11; but the word here used is not expressive of age, but of state, condition, and circumstances; and the meaning is, that he was little in his own esteem, and in the esteem of men, and was despised; and that on account of religion, in which he was a type of Christ, Psalms 22:6; and which is the common lot of good men, who are treated by the world as the faith of it, and the offscouring of all things;
[yet] do not I forget thy precepts; to observe and keep them: the ill treatment of men on account of religion did not cause him to forsake it, or to leave the ways, word, and worship of God; see
Psalms 119:83.

I am small and despised - The word here rendered “small” may mean “small” in respect to number - that is, “few,” Micah 5:2; Isaiah 60:22; or in respect to age - “young,” Genesis 19:31; or in respect to dignity - “low;” least in rank or esteem. The language here may be applied to the church as comparatively few; to one who is young; or to one in humble life. Either of these may be a reason why one is regarded as of little consequence, or may be subject to reproach and ridicule. It is not possible to determine in which of these senses the word is used here, or in which sense it was applicable to the psalmist. The word “despised” means treated as unworthy of notice; passed by; looked upon with contempt. This might be on account of age, or poverty, or ignorance, or humble rank: or it might be simply on account of his religion, for the friends of God have been, and often are, despised simply because they are religious. The Saviour was despised by people; the apostles were; the most excellent of the earth in all ages have been. Compare Hebrews 11:36-38; 1 Corinthians 4:13.
Yet do not I forget thy precepts - I am not ashamed of them. I am not deterred from keeping them, and from avowing my purpose to obey them, because I am despised for it. This is often one of the severest tests of religion, and to be faithful in such circumstances is one of the clearest proofs of true attachment to God. There are few things which we are less able to bear than contempt, and one of the best evidences of attachment to principle is when we adhere to what we regard as right and true, though we are despised for it by the frivolous, the worldly, the rich - by those who claim to be “wise.” He who can bear contempt on account of his opinions, can usually bear anything.

Verse Psalms 119:141. I am small and despised — And on these accounts have every thing to fear. Being small, I cannot resist; being despised, I am in danger; but even all this does not induce me to start aside, or through the fear of man to be unfaithful to thee.
