2 Kings 21:16 — innocent blood. Tradition says that Isaiah was one who suffered martyrdom (Jos. Ant . x. 2 Kings 3:1 ).

Job 5:13 — He taketh, &c. This is quoted in 1 Corinthians 3:19 direct. froward = perverse. Hebrew. pathal, to twist.

Jonah 3:4 — a = one cried. See note on "preach", Jonah 3:2 . forty. The number of probation. See App-10 .

Zephaniah 1:18 — land. Not the same word as in verses: Zephaniah 2:3 . for, Ginsburg thinks this should be "yea".

Haggai 2:4 — saith the LORD of hosts = [is] the oracle of Jehovah Sabaioth. See note on 1 Samuel 1:3 .

Zechariah 3:6 — protested = solemnly affirmed, or testified. Reference to Pentateuch (Genesis 43:3 .Deuteronomy 8:19 . Compare Jeremiah 11:7 .

Malachi 3:7 — ordinances = statutes. Hebrew, hok . Referring to particular ritual observances. Not the same word as in Malachi 3:14 .

Matthew 18:26 — worshipped = did homage. See App-134 and App-137 :1. with. Greek. epi. App-104 . (Tr. reads 3).

Luke 23:30 — on. Greek. epi. App-104 . hills . Greek. Plural of bounds. Occurs only here and in Luke 3:5 .

John 18:36 — servants . Greek huperetes. Same word as "officer", John 18:3 . now . Greek. nun, as in John 17:5 .
