Psalms 147:2 — The LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 . doth build up Jerusalem = is Jerusalem's builder (participle). No reference to post-exilic building. Compare Psalms 122:3 . gathereth = will gather. outcasts = the driven away.
Psalms 148:14 — saints = favoured ones, or beloved. children = sons. near unto Him. The reference is to Leviticus and its leading thought. See Leviticus 10:3 ; Leviticus 21:21 ; and Compare Psalms 65:4 .
Isaiah 35:8 — highway. See note on Isaiah 7:3 . Occurs only here. The way, &c. = the holy road. but, &c. : i.e. yet for those very persons it will exist. err therein = go astray.
Jeremiah 44:2 — the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel. See note on Jeremiah 7:3 . the LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 . God. Hebrew. Elohim. App-4 . evil = calamity. Hebrew. ra'a'. App-44 .
Hosea 2:3 — Lest, &c. Hosea 2:3 refers to Israel's earliest history. her: i.e. her land, as shown by the words following. Compare Ezekiel 16:23-43 . in the day. See App-18 .
Malachi 3:14 — ordiance = charge. Hebrew. mizvah . Not the same word as in Malachi 3:7 . Referring to general religious duties. walked mournfully before = gone off mournfully from the presence of Jehovah of hosts.
Matthew 16:4 — wicked = evil. See note on Matthew 11:16 . adulterous: spiritually. See Matthew 12:39 . Jeremiah 3:9 . Ezekiel 23:37 , &c. seeketh = is (constantly) seeking. Jonas = Jonah. See Matthew 12:39 .
Mark 6:5 — could there do no = was not (as in Mark 6:3 ) able to do any there. Nazareth saw most of the Lord, but profited least. App-169 . save = except. sick = infirm.
John 19:2 — of = out of. Greek. ek. App-104 . thorns . The sign of earth's curse (Genesis 3:18 ). purple . Greek. porphureos. The adjective occurs only here, John 19:5 , and Revelation 18:16 .
