conception. This particular word herayon occurs only here, and Ruth 4:13 . A similar word (Hebrew. haron) in Genesis 3:16 .
Joel 3:10
Beat your plowshares, &c. This precedes the opposite command to be given after this in Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3 , when Hosea 2:18 shall be fulfilled.

Haggai 1:2

This People. Not Zerubbabel or Joshua.

soap = lye; as in Job 9:30 , i.e. water mixed with the ashes of certain plants containing alkali. Compare Mark 9:3 .

blessed = happy, as in Matthew 5:3 , &c.
your eyes . . . your ears = ye. "Eyes" and "ears" being put by Figure of speech Synecdoche (of the Part), App-6 , for the persons themselves.
Matthew 6:6
closet = store-chamber. Hence a secret chamber where treasures were stored. Occurs only here, Matthew 24:26 , and Luke 12:3 , Luke 12:24 . Compare Isaiah 26:20 . 2 Kings 4:33 .
