2 Kings 12:17 — Oath. One of the five Philistine cities, to reach which Hazael must have passed through Israel. Probably connected, with his attacks on Jehu and Jehoahaz (2 Kings 10:32 ; 2 Kings 13:3 , 2 Kings 13:4 ). to = against.
2 Chronicles 1:3 — congregation = convocation, or muster. went. For the reason, see 1 Kings 3:4 . Gibeon = a high place. tabernacle = tent. Hebrew ' oh e l . App-40 . congregation = assembly. Moses the servant of the LORD. See note on Deuteronomy 34:5 .
2 Chronicles 36:10 — sent. N. B., not "came". brought him = had him brought. Zedekiah. Originally Mattaniah. Compare 2 Kings 24:17 , &c. his brother: i.e. his next of kin. In this case his uncle (2 Kings 24:17 . 1 Chronicles 3:15 ).
2 Chronicles 8:1 — twenty. The number of Expectancy and Waiting, 2 Chronicles 21:1 . Divine completeness (21) minus one (1). ( App-10 ). Compare Genesis 31:38 , Genesis 31:41 .Judges 4:3 ; Judges 15:20 ; Judges 16:31 . 1 Samuel 7:2 .
Ezra 2:43 — Nethinims = men given to God or His service. Temple servants. Compare Ezra 2:58 ; Ezra 7:7 , Ezra 7:24 ; Ezra 8:17 , Ezra 8:20 . Nehemiah 3:26 ; Nehemiah 10:28 ; Nehemiah 11:21 . 1 Chronicles 9:2 .
Nehemiah 5:15 — See Nehemiah 5:14 for a longer note that applies to this verse. beside. Heb, 'ahar = after: i.e. after the rate of, as in Jeremiah 3:17 ; Jeremiah 18:12 . Rendered "beside" only here, out of several hundred times.
Nehemiah 7:73 — the Nethinims. See note on Ezra 2:43 . the seventh month. This was in 426 B. C, not in 404 B. C, which is referred to in Nehemiah 9:1-3 and Ezra 9:1-4 . See App-58 .
Psalms 80:4 — O LORD God of hosts. Hebrew. Jehovah. Elohim Zebaioth. See note on 1 Samuel 1:3 . Not common in the Psalms, but occurring in Psalms 59:6 and Psalms 84:8 . How long . . . ? Figure of speech Erotesis. App-6 .
Deuteronomy 21:13 — raiment of her captivity = mantle in which she was taken captive. "Of" = Genitive of relation (see App-17 ). a full month. Hebrew = a moon of days. husband. Hebrew Baal, or lord. Compare first occurrence of verb, Genesis 20:3 .
Deuteronomy 7:22 — before thee. Hebrew "before thy face". little by little: referring to all the nations of Canaan. (Exodus 23:29 , Exodus 23:30 ). Compare Deuteronomy 9:3 , "quickly", which refers to Israel and the "sons of Anak" (Deuteronomy 9:2 ).
Joshua 13:8 — Moses gave Compare Numbers 32:33 Deuteronomy 3:13 , Deuteronomy 22:4 . even as. So a special reading called Sevir ( App-34 ). but Hebrew text reads "as". Moses the servant of the LORD. See note on Deuteronomy 34:5 .
Joshua 4:8 — as = according as. took up. Four things said of these memorial stones in Joshua 4:8 and Joshua 4:9 , (1) taken up; (2) carried over; (3) laid down; (4) set up. there. See note on Joshua 8:30 .

2 Samuel 21:12 — men = lords, or masters (Hebrew. baalim). Compare 1 Samuel 31:10 , 1 Samuel 31:13 . street . The open space by the gate (2 Chronicles 32:6 . Nehemiah 8:1 , Nehemiah 8:3 , Nehemiah 8:16 ). when = in the day.
