Jeremiah 51:27 — prepare = set apart, or sanctify. Minni. Frequently mentioned in the inscriptions, the Assyrians having been compelled to quell revolts there. captain = muster-master or marshal, like the Assyrian dupsarru, or tablet-writer. Hebrew. tiphsar. Occurs only here and Nahum 3:17 .
Ezekiel 36:3 — Because = Because, even because. Figure of speech Epizeuxis . App-6 . swallowed you up . Like a beast of prey. Compare Job c. e. Psalms 56:1 , Psalms 56:2 ; Psalms 57:3 .Ecclesiastes 10:12 . are = have been. infamy = evil report.

Mark 2:19 — children, &c. = sons, &c. App-108 . A Hebraism, referring to the guests, not to the "friends" (or grooms men) of John 3:29 . bridegroom . The Lord, here, refers to Himself. cannot = are not (as in Mark 2:17 ) able to.
Mark 8:15 — charged was charging. of = [and keep away] from. Greek apo. App-104 . the leaven. Note the Figure of speech Hypocatastasis ( App-6 ), by which the word "doctrine "is implied. Compare Matthew 16:6 . Herod. See Mark 3:6 and App-109 .
Luke 11:21 — a = the. armed = fully armed: from head to foot. Compare Matthew 12:28 . Greek. kathoplizomai. Occurs only here in N.T. keepeth = guardeth. his palace = his own court. Greek. aule. Matthew 26:3 , Matthew 26:58 , Matthew 26:69 goods = possessions.
Luke 13:4 — upon . Greek. epi. App-104 . in . Greek en. App-104 . Not the same word as in Luke 13:21 . Siloam. See App-68 . Compare Nehemiah 3:16 . Isaiah 8:6 . John 19:7 . slew = killed. men. Greek. anthropos. App-123 .
Luke 15:5 — when he hath found it = having found it. In Matt., "If so be that he find it. "For the reason, see note on Luke 15:3 . on. Greek. epi. App-104 . his shoulders = his own shoulders; not those of another.
Luke 15:6 — when he cometh = having come. home = into (Greek. eis. App-104 .) the house. with me ; not with the sheep (because of the scope of the parable). See note on Luke 15:3 . The joy is in heaven (Luke 15:7 ).
Luke 17:12 — entered = was about to enter. ten. Compare 2 Kings 7:3 , and note on Exodus 4:6 . men. Greek. Plural of aner. App-123 . afar off . As required by Leviticus 13:45 , Leviticus 13:46 . The Talmudical law prescribed 100 paces.
Luke 20:11 — again he sent = he sent yet. Greek. "added to send". A Hebraism (Luke 19:11 .Acts 12:3 . Compare Genesis 4:2 ). another = a different. Greek. heteros. App-124 .:12 a. The 1611 edition of the Authorized Version reads "the".
John 10:23 — walked = was walking. in. Greek. en. App-104 . temple . Greek. hieron. See note on Matthew 23:18 . Solomon's porch. According to Josephus (Antiquities xx. 9, 7), this was a relic from Solomon's temple (compare Acts 3:11 ; Acts 5:12 ).

John 12:44 — He that believeth, &c. Faith in the Lord does not rest in Him, but passes on to recognize that He is the manifestation of the Father. Compare John 1:14 , John 1:18 ; John 3:33 . sent. Greek. pempo. App-174 .
John 12:50 — His commandment, &c. Figure of speech Ellipsis. App-6 . The result of obeying His commandment is life everlasting. Compare 1 John 3:23 ; 1 John 5:11 . everlasting. Greek. aionios. Same as "eternal" in John 12:25 . See App-151 .
