Isaiah 49:23 — queens = princesses. lick up, &c. Denoting subjection and submission, as in Genesis 3:14 . Compare Psalms 72:9 and Micah 7:17 . thou shalt know. Ref to Pentateuch (Exodus 6:7 ). App-92 . wait for me. Reference to Pentateuch (same word as in Genesis 49:18 ).

Isaiah 56:7 — to = into. Some codices read "upon". holy. See note on Exodus 3:5 . house of prayer. See quotation below. shall be accepted = for acceptance. Mine house, &c. Quoted in Matthew 21:13 .Mark 11:17 . Luke 19:46 . Contrast " your house" (Matthew 23:38 ). people = peoples.

Jeremiah 22:16 — He: i.e. Josiah. judged the cause. Figure of speech Polyptoton. Hebrew judged the judgment. Figure of speech Erotesis by Ellipsis = "[Did he not] judge righteous judgment? "Figure of speech Hendiadys, as in Jeremiah 22:3 . poor = wretched. Hebrew. 'anah. See note on "poverty", Proverbs 6:11 .

Jeremiah 32:14 — the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel. See note on Jeremiah 7:3 . God. Hebrew. Elohim. App-4 . many days: i.e. the seventy years, of which fifty two years had yet to run (deducting eighteen years from the fourth of Jehoiakim to the tenth of Zedekiah).

Jeremiah 4:1 — return. Note the Figure of speech Cycloides. App-6 . Israel. Now referring to the northern kingdom. saith the LORD = [is] Jehovah's oracle. the LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 . then shalt thou not remove = and stray not [from Jehovah]. Compare Jeremiah 2:22-26 ; Jeremiah 3:2 .

Joel 2:9 — run . . in the city . . climb . . . enter, &c. These are put for the acts of men. like a thief. A thief is a man (not an insect); so are these. Compare Matthew 24:43 , Matthew 24:44 .Luke 12:39 , 1 Thessalonians 5:2 . 2 Peter 3:10 .

Amos 3:15 — winter house. Compare Jeremiah 36:22 . summer house . Compare Judges 3:20 . houses of ivory. Put by Figure of speech Synecdoche (of the Whole), App-6 , for the parts inlaid, paneled, or overlaid with ivory. Compare 1 Kings 22:39 . Psalms 45:8 . the great = many.
