Isaiah 39:8 — Good. Hezekiah's submission was like Eli's. Compare 1 Samuel 3:18 . 2 Kings 20:19 . Job 1:21 ; Job 2:10 , &c. For = Nevertheless. The Hebrew distinctive accent meyrka thus marks it. This chapter commences a new Prophecy (see App-82 ), and follows that in Isa 34:1-35 .Isaiah 34:10; Isaiah 34:10

Isaiah 43:22 — called upon Me. Put by Figure of speech Synecdoche (of Species), App-6 , for all that has to do with worship, as developed in verses: Isaiah 43:23 , Isaiah 43:24 . been weary of Me. Note the emphasis is on "Me" in these verses (compare Micah 6:3 .Malachi 1:13; Malachi 1:13 ).

Isaiah 54:1 — Sing = Shout in triumph (Isaiah 52:8 , Isaiah 52:9 . Zephaniah 3:14 ). Quoted in Galatians 1:4 , Gal 1:27 . barren. Refers to Sarah. break forth into singing. See note on Isaiah 14:7 . children = sons. desolate. See note on Isaiah 1:7 . married wife = the husbanded one. the Lord. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 .

Isaiah 57:13 — criest. In distress. thy companies. The paramours of Isaiah 57:8 . wind. Hebrew. ruach. App-9 . vanity. Put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Adjunct), for vain men. Compare Psalms 144:4 .James 4:14 . putteth his trust = fleeth for refuge to. Hebrew. hasah. See App-69 . holy. See note on Exodus 3:5 .

Jeremiah 24:5 — Jeremiah's Fifteenth Prophecy (see book comments for Jeremiah). the LORD, the God of Israel = Jehovah Elohim of Israel. See note on Jeremiah 11:3 and App-4 . acknowledge = own. Put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Cause), App-6 , for regard, or care for. for . . . good. Connect this with "acknowledge", not with "sent out".

Jeremiah 27:18 — Be = exists; or, he and remain. Hebrew. yesh. Compare Jeremiah 31:6 , Jeremiah 31:16 , Jeremiah 31:17 , and see notes on Proverbs 8:21 ; Proverbs 18:24 . the LORD of hosts = Jehovah Zebaoth. See note on Jer 6:6 . 1 Samuel 1:3 . at. Some codices, with three early printed editions, omit this "at".

Ezekiel 25:9 — Beth = jeshimoth. Now 'Ain Surveirneh, near the north-east corner of the Dead Sea (Numbers 33:49 . Joshua 12:3 ; Joshua 13:20 ). Baal = meon. Now Tell M'ain (Numbers 32:38 . 1 Chronicles 5:8 . of, two miles south of Heshbon. Kiriathaim. Now el Hdreiyat, between Dibon and Medeba (Jeremiah 48:1 , Jeremiah 48:23 ).

Ezekiel 34:23 — one shepherd = one ruler. Compare Isaiah 40:11 . Joh 10:11 . My servant David. Occurs only here, Ezekiel 34:24 ; Eze 37:24 , 1 Kings 11:32 , 1 Kings 11:34 , and Ezekiel 14:8 . Compare Jeremiah 30:9 . Hosea 3:5 . David. Either David the king, or Messiah, of Whom he was the type.

Ezekiel 4:14 — Lord GOD . Hebrew. Adonai Jehovah . See App-4 . soul . Hebrew. nephesh. App-13 . that which dieth of itself . Ezekiel 40:1 — the five and twentieth year. See table on p. 1106. the beginning . Probably Abib or Nisan. the city was smitten. The fall of Jerusalem is thus fixed as happening in the eleventh year of the captivity. See the table on p. 1103. the hand. Compare Ezekiel 3:14 . the LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 .

Hosea 7:14 — they have not cried. Compare Job 35:9 , Job 35:10 . Psalms 78:36 . Jeremiah 3:10 . Zechariah 7:5 . with their heart. They cried with their voice. assemble themselves. In their idol temples. wine = new wine. Hebrew. tirosh. App-27 . Not the same word as in Hosea 7:5 . rebel against = apostatized from.

Zechariah 3:9 — upon = fixed upon; as in Deuteronomy 11:12 . Compare 1 Kings 9:3 .Ezra 5:5 . one stone: or, every stone. seven eyes = seven pairs of eyes. Watching and caring for.
