Luke 19:1 — And , &c. Verses 1-10 are peculiar to Luke. entered, &c. = having entered. was passing through. After the healing of the blind man. Compare "come nigh" (Luke 18:35 ). Jericho. Now Eriha. Luke 19:29 — And , &c. This is the second entry, which was not unexpected as the former was (Matthew 21:1 , &c .), but pre-arranged (John 12:12 , John 12:13 ). See App-153 and App-156 . Bethphage. See note on Matthew 21:1 . Bethany. Now el 'Azeriyek = The place of Lazarus. See App-156 . Bethany was the starting-point of this second entry. See note on Matthew 4:10 . hath desired = hath demanded. Greek. exciteo. Occurs only here in N.T. It means to obtain by asking. you. Plural. sift. Greek. siniazo = to sift (as wheat), to get rid of the corn. Occurs only here. The Lord "winnows "to get rid of the chaff. Compare Matthew 3:12 . Pet. Luke 5:8 , Luke 5:9 .

John 1:4 — life . Greek. zoe. App-170 .: i.e. the fountain of life. Hence 1Jn 5:11 , 1 John 5:12 , and Psalms 36:8 , manifested (John 1:4 ); obtained (John 3:16 ); possessed (John 4:14 ); sustained (John 6:35 ); ministered (John 7:38 ); abounding (John 10:10 ); resurrection (John 11:24 , John 11:25 ). A characteristic word of this Gospel. See note on p. 1511.

John 1:6 — There was = There arose. Not the same word as in John 1:1 . sent. Compare Malachi 3:1 . Greek apostello ( App-174 .), whence we have our "Apostle" = one sent. John 18:37 — Art thou a king then? = Is it not then (Greek. oukoun. Occurs only here) that Thou art a king? or, So then a king Thou art? To this end = To (Greek. eis. Because, had the nation repented, "all that the prophets had spoken" would have been fulfilled according to Acts 3:21 , including the resurrection foretold in Ezekiel 37:0 , and Isaiah 26:19 , &c. the Son of God.
