The True "Rest of God" only typified by the "rest" of Canaan.

Originally warning (Promised) to Joshua - Numbers 14:29 ff.

Verse 2

Hebrews 4:2

Gospel -- good news about a "rest."

Word -- The Word must be mixed with faith.

The Gospel is profitless to the unbelieving heart.

vs. 6-7 The continual openness of the rest.

If the "rest" had been fulfilled in Joshua’s day, then David would not have spoken of it. Canaan was a picture of the heavenly rest.

Hebrews 4:15

High priest -- 2) Superior in His sympathy (Hebrews 5:2, Hebrews 5:7-8)

Our infirmities -- His resemblance and superiority to others High Priests.

Verse 16

Hebrews 4:16

1. There is a throne of grace and mercy

2. We are encouraged to approach that throne

v.16 Throne of a King and Priest, like Melchizedek Hebrews 7:1-2.
