Used especially in the KJV to denote the transient nature of the material world—that is, the world's bent toward change and decay (see especially Romans 8:21; 1 Corinthians 15:42-57; 1 Peter 1:4 ). The world's corruption stands in contrast to the permanent, eternal nature of the resurrection hope.
