(hee' rehth) Modern translation spelling of Hareth, place name meaning “cut in to.” Forest in which David hid from Saul after settling his parents with the king of Moab (1 Samuel 22:5 ). Some identify it with Horesh (1 Samuel 23:15 ) located at khirbet Khoreisa two miles south of Ziph. Others place it at the village of Kharas near Keilah. From Hereth, David attacked the Philistines at Keilah (1 Samuel 23:1-5 ).
