Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible
JOKTHEEL. 1. A city described ( Joshua 15:33-38 ) as lying in ‘the ShephÃ§lah.’ It came into possession of the tribe of Judah. Its site has not been recovered. 2. The name (which some have sought to explain from the Arab. [Note: Arabic.] , ‘protection of God’) given ( 2 Kings 14:7 ) to Sela , the ancient capital of the Edomites, after its capture by Amaziah king of Judah.
