In the Old Testament, especially in the Psalms, a designation for some very large sea animal (Psalms 103) or a serpent (Psalms 90). In the Apocalypse, 12, the chieftain of the host of fallen angels fights with Michael and his angels, and the dragon is defeated, "that old serpent who is called the devil and Satan." In art the devil is frequently pictured as a dragon, a huge winged lizard. It is an emblem of
