Confessor, Bishop of Seville, born Carthage, c.534;died Seville, Spain, 601. He was the brother of Saint Isidore who succeeded him, and Saint Fulgentius of Carthagena. He became a Benedictine monk, and, in 579, Bishop of Seville. He founded a noted School at Seville, and was distinguished for his opposition to Arianism, which led to his temporary exile.
