For τιμάω = ";honour,"; as generally in the NT, cf. the decree in honour of a gymnasiarch P Oxy III. 473.7 (A.D. 138–160) τιμῆσαι αὐτόν, Chrest. I. 41iii. 14 (A.D. 232) τειμηθέντων τῶν Κ [ρατίστων Μαξιμίνου καὶ υἱο ]ῦ Μαξίμου, and the inscrr. saepe. Τιμητός occurs in P Petr I. 24 (3).2 (Ptol.).
The meaning ";set a value upon,"; ";price,"; as in Matthew 27:9 LXX, is seen in such passages as P Cairo Zen II. 59269.15 (an account—B.C. 234) ἐ [ὰν δ ]ὲ πλείονος ἢ ἐλάσσονος τ ̣[ιμ ]ῆται, αὐτῶι ὑπάρξει, ";if the price be reckoned at more or less, it will be imputed to him accordingly,"; PSI IV. 382.15 (B.C. 248–7) τιμῶσι δὲ αὐτὴν (sc. τὴν ἀκάνθην) (δραχμῶν) κ ̄η ̄, P Par 58.3 (B.C. 153–152) (= UPZ i. p. 325) τετίμηκα <ς > τὴν βοῦν ταλάντων τρία ἥμυσυ, and P Flor II. 266.6 (iii/A.D.) ἅπ ]α ̣ντα τίμησ ̣[ο ]ν.
