ἑορτ-ή,
1. in Ion. Prose ὁρτή (so Schwyzer 726.21 (Milet., v B.C.), prob. in Ion Trag.21, but ἑορτή Schwyzer 725.12 (Milet., vi B. C.)), ἡ, feast, festival, holiday, ἐπεὶ καὶ πᾶσιν ἑ. Od. 20.156; ἑ. τοῖο θεοῖο 21.258; ἐούσης ὁρτῆς τῇ Ἥρῃ τοῖσι Ἀργείοισι Hdt. 1.31; ὁρτὴν ἄγειν keep a feast, ib. 147, cf. John 13:29) περιστερείδι ̣α ἡμεῖν ἀγοράσηι, P Fay 118.16 (A.D. 110) ἀγόρασον τὰ ὀρνιθάρια τῆς εἱορτῆς, P Oxy III. 475.17 (A.D. 182) ἑορτῆς οὔσης ἐν τῇ Σενέ [πτα, ib. IV. 725.36. (contract of apprenticeship—A.D. 183) ἀργήσει δὲ ὁ παῖς εἰς λόγον ἑορτῶν κατ᾽ ἔτος ἡμέρας εἴκοσι, ";the boy shall have 20 holidays in the year on account of festivals"; (Edd.), ib. IX. 1185.29 (c. A form ἑορτικός occurs P Strass I. 40.49 (A.D. 569). In P Tebt II. 417.24 ff. (iii/A.D.) μάθε τοῦ Μώρου ὅτι τί θέλις ἀγοράσομεν εἰς Ἀντινο ̣υ (l. -ο ̣ου), we may perhaps supply ἑορτήν, as in Jn l.c.
