Thayer's Expanded Definition

εὔθυμος, ἐυθυμον (εὖ and θυμός)

1. well-disposed, kind (Homer, Odyssey 14, 63).

2. of good cheer, of good courage: Acts 27:36; (comparitive as adverb Rec. (see εὐθύμως)) (Greek writings from Aesehyl. and Pindar down; 2 Macc. 11:26).

STRONGS NT 2115a: εὐθύμως εὐθύμως, adverb (Aeschylus, Xenophon, others), cheerfully: Acts 24:10 L T Tr WH, for Rec. εὐθυμότερον the more confidently.

εὔθυμος, P Oxy VI. 939.19 (iv/A.D.) ἵνα σε εὐθυμότερον καταστήσω, ";that I may make you more cheerful"; : cf. OGIS 669.7 (i/A.D.) ἵνα δὲ εὐθυμότεροι πάντα ἐλπίζητε κτλ. For the subst. see the fragmentary P Ryl II. 439 (iii/A.D.) where the desire is expressed—αὖθις μετ᾽ εὐθυμίας τὸ θεοφιλέστατόν σου πρόσωπον ἀπολαβεῖν.

εὐθύμως, OGIS 669.4 (i/A.D.) πᾶσαν πρόνοιαν ποιούμενος. . . τοῦ τὴν Αἴγυπτον ἐν εὐσταθείᾳ διάγουσαν εὐθύμως ὑπηρετεῖν τῆι τε εὐθηνίᾳ καὶ τῆι μεγίστηι τῶν νῦν καιρῶν εὐδαιμονίᾳ. The comparative of the adverb may be seen, as in the ";received"; text of Acts 24:10, in P Giss I. 41ii. 12 (beginning of Hadrian’s reign) ἐπινεύσαντος ο [ ]ν <σου > τῇ [ι ] δεήσει μου. . . δυνή [σο ]μαι εὐθυμότερον προσέρχεσθαι [τῆι ] τῆς [σ ]τρατηγ [ίας ] ἐπιμελείαι.
