Vocabulary of the Greek NT

With the thought of capture alive (Suid. ζωγρεῖ · ζῶντας λαμβάνει) in Luke 5:10 ἀνθρώπους ἔσῃ ζωγρῶν (Beza, vivos capies homines) cf. the use of the subst. in Syll 318.30 (B.C. 118) καὶ πολλοὺς μὲν αὐτῶν ἐν χειρῶν νομαῖς ἀπέκτεινεν, οὓς δὲ ζωγρίαι συνέλαβεν, and Polyb. iii. 84. 10 where δεόμενοι ζωγρεῖν is contrasted with διαφθείρειν. Kaibel 841.7 (A.D. 149) ζώγρε [ι ], δέσποτ᾽ ἄναξ, τὸν σὸν ναετῆρα μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν | Κλαυδιανόν is a good example of the LXX usage = ";preserve alive,"; as in Numbers 31:15, Joshua 6:25.
