Lg. 708b; ὑπὸ στενοχωρίας Id. Tht. 195a; opp. εὐρυχωρία and ἄνεσις, Plu. 2.679f, cf. 182b; ς. βίου the short space of life remaining, Ael. VH 2.41; τὸν λόγον ἀπὸ τῆς ἐκεῖ στενοχωρίας εἰς πεδίον ἐξαγάγῃ Lib. Or. 64.10 .

II metaph., straits, difficulty, ἡ ς. τοῦ ποταμοῦ difficulty of passing the river, X. HG 1.3.7, cf.
