In Hebrew thought, a wall is more than a vertical barrier but anything that separates or divides. The hearth around the fire protected the house from the heat and embers of the fire.

II. אָח noun feminine fire-pot, brasier (Arabic in Thes, is an error) is loan-word from Egyptian &las— according to WMM OLZ 3,51; Jeremiah 36:22 read וְאֵשׁ הָאָח; always with article Jeremiah 36:22 לְפָנָיו׳הַא מְבֹעָ֑רֶת the brasier before him was burning; Jeremiah 36:23 ׳הָאֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר אֶלהָֿא; Jeremiah 36:23 ׳הָאֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר עַלהָֿא (I. אָח, brother see below אחה; III. אָח interjection, p. 25).
