[יָעֵל] noun [masculine] mountain-goat (Late Hebrew id.; ᵑ7יְעֵיעָא, Syriac ; Arabic , ; Assyrian ia'ilu Dl S 53 (but Hpt BAS i. 170, Jäger ib. 465); Ethiopic see Hom NS 280) — Plural יְעֵלִים Psalm 104:18 ("" שְׁפַנִּים); צוּרֵי׳הַיּ 1 Samuel 24:3; יַעֲלֵיסָֿ֑לַע Job 39:1 ("" אַיָּלוֺת; compare I. יַעֲלָה).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

יָעֵל m. pl. יְעֵלִים const. יַעֲלֵי

(1)  the ibex, perhaps also the chamois. Arab. وَعِلُ and وَعْلُ, Psalms 104:18; Job 39:1. Comp. Bochart, Hieroz. P. I, p. 915, seq. צוּרֵי הַיְּעֵלִים the rocks of the wild goats, near the desert of Engedi, 1 Samuel 24:3.

(2) [Jael], pr.n.

(a) of a judge [?] or heroic person of Israel, before the time of Deborah, Judges 5:6. [This is surely the same as the next.]

(b) of a resolute woman, the wife of Heber the Kenite, Judges 4:17, 18 Judges 4:18, 5:24. Some understand the same to be spoken of 5:6 [of course they are the same.]
