כָּתַת fut. יִכֹּת
(1) to beat, to hammer, to forge, Joel 4:10. (With this agree quatio, percutio; kindred root כָּדַד to hammer.)
(2) to beat in pieces, to break, e.g. a vessel, Isaiah 30:14. Part. pass. כָּתוּת crushed, i.e. castrated by bruising the testicles, Leviticus 22:24.
(3) to break down, i.e. to rout an enemy, Psal. 89:24.
Piel כִּתַּת i.q. Kal No. 1; Isaiah 2:4, No. 2; 2 Kings 18:4; 2 Chronicles 34:7, No. 3, to break down the earth, i.e. to lay it waste, Zechariah 11:6.
Pual pass. to beat or dash selves upon. 2 Chronicles 15:6, “they dash nation against nation, city against city;” speaking of a war in which all is mutual discord.
Hiphil fut. יַכְּתוּ to rout (an enemy), i.q. Kal No. 3, Numbers 14:45; Deuteronomy 1:44.
Hophal, fut. יֻכַּת to be beaten to pieces, used of the images of idols, Micah 1:7 Metaph. of persons, Job 4:20; Jeremiah 46:5.
Hence כָּתִית, מְכִתָּה.
