נוֹף m. elevation, height, from the Arabic usage نَوُْف from the root, ناف to be high, conspicuous, Psalms 48:3 “beautiful in height is mount Zion,” i.e. it rises up beautifully. The word נֹף Memphis (which see), is of Egyptian origin.
