II. עפר (√ of following; compare Arabic young of mountain-goat, Late Hebrew עוֺפֶר young of animals).
עָפַר not used in Kal, Arab. I. عَفِرُ to be whitish, reddish, like sand, or a gazelle, عَفَرُ dust, earth. II. غفر (cogn. to כָּפַר to cover), to be rough, hairy.
Piel (denom. from עָפָר), to dust, to throw dust at (beftäuben), 2 Samuel 16:13.
