Ag. 1057; πολυθύτους τεύχειν ς. to offer many sacrifices, S. Tr. 756: also in Prose, ὑπὸ σφαγῆς Pl. R. 610b; θανάτους τε καὶ σφαγάς Id. Lg. 682e; σφαγὰς ποιεῖσθαι X. II the throat, the spot where the victim is struck (κοινὸν μέρος αὐχένος καὶ στήθους σφαγή Arist. HA 493b7), Antipho 5.69: pl., ἐν σφαγαῖσι βάψασα ξίφος A. Pr. 863; ἐς σφαγὰς ὦσαι ξίφος E. The classical τέτρας to denote the 4th day of the month is seen in such passages as P Ryl II. 197.7 (late ii/A.D.) Ἁθὺρ. . . τετράδι. It is retained in the LXX proper, and is found in the title of the Psalms 93:1-5 [MT Psalms 94:1-23] with reference to the fourth day of the week, as in MGr : see Thackeray Gr. i. p. 189.
