Niph`al be disheartened, cowed (compare Arabic draw back timidly, abstain, through timidity) —

Niph`al Perfect וְנִכְאָה consecutive Daniel 11:30 then shall he be cowed; Participle נִכְאֵה לֵבָב Psalm 109:16 downhearted ("" עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֺן).

Hiph`il Infinitive construct הַכְאוֺת לֵב צַדִּיק Ezekiel 13:22; but ᵐ5ᵑ7 Co הכאבתן see כָּאַב.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

כָּאָה unused in Kal, properly to reprove, to rebuke, like the Syr. ܟܐܳܐ, hence to become fearful, faint-hearted, to be sad, compare כָּהָה كَهِىَ to be faint-hearted, Arabic كَاءَ to be sad, كَاءُ faint-hearted, كَعَّ to terrify, to restrain, intrans. Med. E. to be fearful, faint-hearted.

Hiphil, to make sad, faint-hearted, to afflict, with the addition of לֵב Ezekiel 13:22.

Niphal

(1) to be rebuked, followed by מִן to be cast out, expelled. Job 30:8, נִכְּאוּ מִן־הָאָרֶץ “they are cast out of the land.” (Dagesh euphon. in Caph.) [In Thes. this passage is referred to נָכָא, and this meaning is therefore not given.]

(2) to be faint-hearted, dejected, Daniel 11:30; Psalms 109:16. Hence
