Qal, Pi`el) hyperbolic (properly compress, Late Hebrew id., press together; Arabic is be silent, II, IV. make speechless, silence; Syriac be silent (in Lexicons)); —

Qal Perfect 3 plural צָֽמְתוּ ֗֗֗ חַיָּ֑י Lamentations 3:63 = they have put an end to my life (Bu conjectures Pi`el).

Niph`al be ended, annihilated; Perfect 1 singular נִצְמַתִּת מִמְּנֵיאחשֶׁךְ Job 23:17 I am [not] annihilated because of (the) darkness; 3 plural נִצְמָ֑תוּ Job 6:17 (of dried-up brooks).

Pi`el Perfect 3 feminine singular suffix צִמְּתַתְנִי Psalm 119:139 קִנְאָתִי hath put an end to me (it is so intense).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

צָמַת pr. to be silent, to leave off speaking, like the Arab. سمت (of the same family as צוּם, דּוּם, דָּמַם and many others ending in ם, see page 203, B ); trans. to cut off, to destroy, prop. to bring to silence, Lamentations 3:53.

Niphal, to be extinguished, Job 6:17, 23:17.

Piel, Psalms 119:139 and

Hiphil, i.q. Kal, Psalms 54:7, 69:5 101:5.

Pilpel צִמְתֵּת id. Psalms 88:17, where צִמְתֻּתוּנִי occurs for צִמְתְּתוּנִי, which does not appear to have been stated by any one. However, I should not doubt that Kibbutz is put for a moveable Sh’va, on account of the following long u, according to the law which I have stated, Lehrg. p. 68, 69; also Sam., for לְכוֹן, and in Gr. and Lat. homo, socors, for hemo (semo), secors; genu, γόνυ; νέος, novus; σκόπελος, scopulus. Compare קֹבֶל, קֹטֶן.
