Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God as well?

Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; state a proposal, but it will not happen. For God is with us."

When men tell you to consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn't a people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

They will roam the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and looking upward, they will curse their king and their God.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Therefore the Lord GOD of Hosts will send a wasting disease among Assyria's stout warriors, and under his pomp will be kindled a fire like a burning flame.

A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.

For the Lord GOD of Hosts will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.

Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD of Hosts says: "O My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria, who strikes you with a rod and lifts his staff against you as the Egyptians did.

Behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts will lop off the branches with terrifying power. The tall trees will be cut down, the lofty ones will be felled.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation."

And Babylon, the jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.

You said in your heart: "I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of assembly, in the far reaches of the north.

Yet gleanings will remain, like an olive tree that has been beaten-two or three berries atop the tree, four or five on its fruitful branches," declares the LORD, the God of Israel.

For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and failed to remember the rock of your strength. Therefore, though you cultivate delightful plots and set out cuttings from exotic vines-

I will deliver the Egyptians into the hands of harsh masters, and a fierce king will rule over them," declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.

O My people, crushed on the threshing floor, I tell you what I have heard from the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel.

The remaining archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few." For the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.

For the Lord GOD of Hosts has set a day of tumult and trampling and confusion in the Valley of Vision-of breaking down the walls and crying to the mountains.

On that day the Lord GOD of Hosts called for weeping and wailing, for shaven heads and the wearing of sackcloth.
