There was nothing left that he didn't devour; Therefore his prosperity shall not endure.

In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: The hand of every one that is in misery shall come on him.

When he is about to fill his belly, [God] will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him, And will rain it on him while he is eating.

He draws it forth, and it comes out of his back; Yes, the glittering point comes out of his gall: Terrors are on him.

All darkness is laid up for his treasures: A fire not blown [by man] shall devour him; It shall consume that which is left in his tent.

The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, And the earth shall rise up against him.

The increase of his house shall depart; [His goods] shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity comes on them? That [God] distributes sorrows in his anger?

[You say], God lays up his iniquity for his sons. Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it:

Let his own eyes see his destruction, And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

For what does he care for his house after him, When the number of his months is cut off?

One dies in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and quiet:

His pails are full of milk, And the marrow of his bones is moistened.

Who shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he has done?

Receive, I pray you, the law from his mouth, And lay up his words in your heart.

Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!

Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No; but he would give heed to me.

My foot has held fast to his steps; His way I have kept, and didn't turn aside.

I haven't gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

But he is in one, and who can turn him? And what his soul desires, even that he does.
