He has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.

He has drawn his bow and made me the target for his arrows.

He shot his arrows deep into my heart.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline:

Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love.

But now the anger of the Lord is satisfied. His fierce anger has been poured out. He started a fire in Jerusalem that burned the city to its foundations.

Our king—the Lord 's anointed, the very life of our nation— was caught in their snares. We had thought that his shadow would protect us against any nation on earth!

From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor.

The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words.

Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a loud rumbling sound behind me. (May the glory of the Lord be praised in his place!)

I saw a figure that appeared to be a man. From what appeared to be his waist down, he looked like a burning flame. From the waist up he looked like gleaming amber.

Six men soon appeared from the upper gate that faces north, each carrying a deadly weapon in his hand. With them was a man dressed in linen, who carried a writer's case at his side. They all went into the Temple courtyard and stood beside the bronze altar.

Then one of the cherubim reached out his hand and took some live coals from the fire burning among them. He put the coals into the hands of the man in linen clothing, and the man took them and went out.

"Even Zedekiah will leave Jerusalem at night through a hole in the wall, taking only what he can carry with him. He will cover his face, and his eyes will not see the land he is leaving.

I will scatter his servants and warriors to the four winds and send the sword after them.

"Son of man, the people of Israel are saying, ‘He's talking about the distant future. His visions won't come true for a long, long time.'

Pharaoh and all his mighty army will fail to help Israel when the king of Babylon lays siege to Jerusalem again and destroys many lives.

For the king of Israel disregarded his treaty and broke it after swearing to obey; therefore, he will not escape.
