Jesus answered, "It will be one of you twelve, one who dips his bread in the dish with me.

While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. "Take it," he said, "this is my body."

They came to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray."

But one of those standing there drew his sword and struck at the High Priest's slave, cutting off his ear.

The High Priest tore his robes and said, "We don't need any more witnesses!

You heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?" They all voted against him: he was guilty and should be put to death.

They put a purple robe on Jesus, made a crown out of thorny branches, and put it on his head.

When they had finished making fun of him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

Then they crucified him and divided his clothes among themselves, throwing dice to see who would get which piece of clothing.

They also crucified two bandits with Jesus, one on his right and the other on his left.

Now go and give this message to his disciples, including Peter: ‘He is going to Galilee ahead of you; there you will see him, just as he told you.'"

After Jesus rose from death early on Sunday, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons. She went and told his companions. They were mourning and crying;

The disciples went and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and proved that their preaching was true by the miracles that were performed.] [The women went to Peter and his friends and gave them a brief account of all they had been told. After this, Jesus himself sent out through his disciples from the east to the west the sacred and everliving message of eternal salvation.]

During the time when Herod was king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly order of Abijah. His wife's name was Elizabeth; she also belonged to a priestly family.

One day Zechariah was doing his work as a priest in the Temple, taking his turn in the daily service.

John will be great in the Lord's sight. He must not drink any wine or strong drink. From his very birth he will be filled with the Holy Spirit,

When he came out, he could not speak to them, and so they knew that he had seen a vision in the Temple. Unable to say a word, he made signs to them with his hands.

When his period of service in the Temple was over, Zechariah went back home.

Some time later his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and did not leave the house for five months.

Mary was deeply troubled by the angel's message, and she wondered what his words meant.
