The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; And a man is [tried] by his praise.

For riches are not forever: And does the crown endure to all generations?

The lambs are for your clothing, And the goats are the price of the field;

And [there will be] goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, And maintenance for your maidens.

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof; But by [a] man of understanding [and] knowledge the state [thereof] shall be prolonged.

He that augments his substance by interest and increase, Gathers it for him that has pity on the poor.

To have respect of persons is not good; Neither that a [noble] man should transgress for a piece of bread.

A [noble] man that flatters his neighbor Spreads a net for his steps.

The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect; And as for the upright, they seek his life.

A slave will not be corrected by words; For though he understands, he will not give heed.

Remove far from me falsehood and lies; Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is needful for me:

There are three things which are too wonderful for me, Yes, four which I don't know:

For three things the earth trembles, And for four, [which] it can't bear:

For a slave when he is king; And a fool when he is filled with food;

For an odious woman when she is married; And a female slave when she takes the place of her mistress.

The lion, which is mightiest among beasts, And does not turn away for any;

For the churning of milk brings forth butter, And the wringing of the nose brings forth blood; So the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to desire strong drink.

Open your mouth for the mute, In the cause of all such as are left desolate.

A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.
