when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.

All of man has become brutish [and is] without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his graven image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Yahweh of hosts is his name.

O Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in a man that walks to direct his steps.

Pour out your wrath on the nations that don't know you, and on the families that do not call on your name: for they have devoured Jacob, yes, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.

But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn't know that they had devised devices against me, [saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be remembered no more.

And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may you also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

and you have done evil more than your fathers; for, look, you walk every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you don't listen to me:

Thus says Yahweh: Cursed is the [noble] man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from Yahweh.

I, Yahweh, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

As the partridge that sits on [eggs] which she has not laid, so is he that gets riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool.

Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says Yahweh: Look, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return now every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.

But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart.

to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.

Then they said, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

and say, Hear the word of Yahweh, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, Look, I will bring evil on this place, which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle.

And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies, and those that seek their life, shall distress them.

And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I can't [contain].

Inquire, I pray you, of Yahweh for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon makes war against us: perhaps Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
