But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, "We will not have this man to reign over us.'

When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.

And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him.

And they said, "What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."

Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." [fn] And they divided His garments and cast lots.

And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.' " Psalms 31:5">[fn] Having said this, He breathed His last.

But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid.
