They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.

So you who believe see his value, but for those who do not believe, the stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone ,

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in his steps.

He committed no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth .

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed .

For the one who wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit .

For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer . But the Lord's face is against those who do evil .

in that he spends the rest of his time on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.

But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice and be glad.

And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand

And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

I can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.

Through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises, so that by means of what was promised you may become partakers of the divine nature, after escaping the worldly corruption that is produced by evil desire.

But concerning the one who lacks such things—he is blind. That is to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the cleansing of his past sins.

For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ; no, we were eyewitnesses of his grandeur.

(for while he lived among them day after day, that righteous man was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)

yet was rebuked for his own transgression (a dumb donkey, speaking with a human voice, restrained the prophet's madness).

and saying, "Where is his promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation."

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
