When it was full, the fishermenthey">[fn] hauled it ashore. Then they sat down, sorted the good fish into containers, and threw the bad ones away.

He went to his hometown and began teaching the peoplethem">[fn] in their synagogue in such a way that they were amazed and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miracles?Matthew 2:23; Mark 6:1; Luke 4:16,23;">[xr]

This is the builder'scarpenter's">[fn] son, isn't it? His mother is named Mary, isn't she? His brothers are James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas, aren't they?Isaiah 49:7; Matthew 12:46; Mark 6:3; 15:40; Luke 3:23; John 6:42;">[xr]

And his sisters are all with us, aren't they? So where did this man get all these things?"

And they were offended by him. But Jesus told them, "A prophet is without honor only in his hometown and in his own home."Matthew 11:6; Mark 6:3-4; Luke 4:24; John 4:44;">[xr]

When John'shis">[fn] disciples came, they carried off the body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.

Now when evening came, the disciples went to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and it's already late. Send the crowds away so that they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves."Mark 6:35; Luke 9:12; John 6:5;">[xr]

They told him, "We don't have anything here except five loaves of bread and two fish."

When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, "It's a ghost!" And they screamed in terror.Job 1:9:8;">[xr]

They crossed over and came ashore at Gennesaret.Mark 6:53;">[xr]

When the men of that place recognized Jesus,him">[fn] they sent wordword">[fn] throughout that region and brought him all who were sick.

They kept begging him to let them touch just the tassel of his garment, and all who touched it were completely healed.Matthew 9:20; Mark 3:10; Luke 6:19; Acts 19:12;">[xr]

Then the disciples came and said to him, "Do you realize that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?"

Large crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, those unable to talk, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he healed them.Isaiah 35:5-6; Matthew 11:5; Luke 7:22;">[xr]

As a result, the crowd was amazed to see those who were unable to talk speaking, the crippled healed, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. So they praised the God of Israel.

Then Jesus called his disciples and said, "I have compassion for the crowd because they have already been with me for three days and have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away without food, or they may faint on the road."Mark 8:1;">[xr]

Jesus said to them, "How many loaves of bread do you have?"They said, "Seven, and a few small fish."

When the Pharisees and Sadducees arrived, as a test they asked Jesushim">[fn] to show them a sign from heaven.Matthew 12:38; Mark 8:11; Luke 11:16; 12:54-56; 1 Corinthians 1:22;">[xr]

They began to discuss this among themselves and said, "We didn't take any bread."
