Then I said the word, and they cleansed the chambers; and I returned there the utensils of the house of God with the grain offerings and the frankincense.

So I contended against the officials and said, "Why is the house of God forsaken?" Then I gathered them together and had them stand in their posts.

Remember me for this, O my God, and do not blot out my lovingkindnesses which I have shown for the house of my God and its responsibilities.

Did not your fathers do the same, so our God brought on us and on this city all this calamity? Yet you are adding to His anger on Israel by profaning the sabbath."

And I said to the Levites that they should cleanse themselves and come as gatekeepers to keep the sabbath day holy. For this also remember me, O my God, and have compassion on me according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness.

So I contended with them and cursed them and struck some of them and pulled out their hair and made them swear by God, "You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take up their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin regarding these things? Yet among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was loved by his God, and God gave him to be king over all Israel; nevertheless the foreign women caused even him to sin.

Do we then hear about you that you have done all this great evil by acting unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?"

Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and the Levites.

and I arranged for the supply of wood at fixed times and for the first fruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.

There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God, and turning away from evil.

Now it happened when the days of feasting had completed their cycle, that Job would send and set them apart as holy. And he would rise up early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually.

Now it was the day that the sons of God came to stand before Yahweh, and Satan also came among them.

Then Yahweh said to Satan, "Have you set your heart upon My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil."

And Satan answered Yahweh and said, "Does Job fear God without cause?

While this one was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the young men and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

Through all this Job did not sin, nor did he give offense to God.

Again it was the day that the sons of God came to stand before Yahweh, and Satan also came among them to stand himself before Yahweh.

And Yahweh said to Satan, "Have you set your heart upon My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity. So you incited Me against him to swallow him up in vain."

Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!"
