Who makes a god or casts a metal imagethat benefits no one?

A person can use it for fuel.He takes some of it and warms himself;also he kindles a fire and bakes bread;he even makes it into a god and worships it;he makes an idol from it and bows down to it.

He makes a god or his idol with the rest of it.He bows down to it and worships;he prays to it, “Save me, for you are my god.”

I will give you the treasures of darknessand riches from secret places,so that you may know that I am the Lord.I am the God of Israel, who calls you by your name.

“Come, gather together,and approach, you fugitives of the nations.Those who carry their wooden idolsand pray to a god who cannot savehave no knowledge.

Speak up and present your case—yes, let them consult each other.Who predicted this long ago?Who announced it from ancient times?Was it not I, the Lord?There is no other God but me,a righteous God and Savior;there is no one except me.

Turn to me and be saved,all the ends of the earth.For I am God,and there is no other.

Remember what happened long ago,for I am God, and there is no other;I am God, and no one is like me.

For they are named after the Holy City,and lean on the God of Israel;his name is the Lord of Armies.

This is what the Lord God says:

The Lord God has given methe tongue of those who are instructedto know how to sustain the weary with a word.He awakens me each morning;he awakens my ear to listen like those being instructed.

The Lord God has opened my ear,and I was not rebellious;I did not turn back.

The Lord God will help me;therefore I have not been humiliated;therefore I have set my face like flint,and I know I will not be put to shame.

In truth, the Lord God will help me;who will condemn me?Indeed, all of them will wear out like a garment;a moth will devour them.
