Ti šli a řekli: "Mistře, víme, že jsi pravdivý a že se na nikoho neohlížíš; ty přece nebereš ohled na postavení člověka, nýbrž učíš cestě Boží podle pravdy. Je dovoleno dávat daň císaři, nebo ne? Máme dávat, nebo nemáme?"
Přišli a řekli mu: "Učiteli, víme, že jsi pravdivý a nezáleží ti na nikom, neboť nebereš ohled na postavení člověka, ale pravdivě učíš Boží cestu; je dovoleno dát daň císaři, nebo ne? Máme dát, či nemáme dát?"
Přišli tedy a řekli mu: "Mistře, víme, že jsi pravdomluvný a na nikoho nedbáš, neboť se neohlížíš na to, kdo je kdo, ale pravdivě učíš Boží cestě. Je správné dávat císaři daň nebo ne? Máme dávat nebo nedávat?"

And when they were come,.... Unto Jesus in the temple:
they said unto him, master; they saluted him in like manner, as they did their doctors and Rabbins, calling him "Rabbi", though they were not his disciples; but one part of them were the disciples of the Pharisees, and the other had Herod for their master;
we know that thou art true; an honest, sincere, and upright man,
